Introduction
National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) upholds the guiding principle of ‘Founding the University on the Ocean and Pursuing Sustainable Development’. It is dedicated to enhancing education, research, industry-academic collaboration, and social responsibility, with the objective of becoming a top-tier university in the areas of marine science, engineering, ecology, and sustainable development.
To cultivate interdisciplinary talents with sustainability literacy, NTOU offers academic programs in AI for the ocean, earth sciences, environmental biology, and fisheries science. These programs are integrated with international partnerships and internship opportunities to broaden students' global outlook and enhance their practical skills. NTOU students consistently achieve excellent results in national competitions and actively participate in local cultural revitalization efforts, demonstrating their strong sense of social responsibility.
In 2024, NTOU ranked 12th nationwide in the QS World University Sustainability Rankings, with some indicators placing in the top 10. NTOU also received various prestigious awards, including the 2025 National Sustainable Education Award, the 'Global Views Monthly' USR Model Award, and the Excellence Award.
NTOU's greenhouse gas inventory was established in 2024 as a baseline year due to Taiwan's 2050 Net-Zero Emissions policy. A carbon management system has been established in accordance with ISO 14064-1, signaling NTOU's active move towards net-zero transformation.
In the future, NTOU will remain committed to realizing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by integrating resources, deepening international and local engagement, and remaining dedicated.
