Introduction
National Taipei University (NTPU)
Founded in 1949 as the Taiwan Provincial Local Government Training School, National Taipei University (NTPU) has undergone several stages of development, including its evolution into the Taiwan Provincial College of Law and Business, the College of Law and Business at National Chung Hsing University, and ultimately, in 2000, its reorganization into National Taipei University. The main campus is located in Sanxia District, New Taipei City, forming a close-knit "university town" with the Sanxia Beida District, a unique feature among universities in Taiwan.
Since the launch of the "University Social Responsibility Practice " (USR) in 2017, NTPU has successfully passed the pilot phase and continued to make an impact through its Seed, Budding, and Deep-Rooted USR projects. USR has become a key focus of the university’s development strategy. Among the seven core themes of its university development framework, one explicitly emphasizes "fostering social innovation among faculty and students, strengthening local connections, and fulfilling the university’s social responsibility." Additionally, USR is identified as one of the nine strategic priorities in NTPU’s 2021-2025 Mid- to Long-term Development Plan (Priority Nine): "Promoting social and cultural engagement and fulfilling university social responsibility," underscoring its importance.
The USR initiative at NTPU is not just an aspirational goal but a concrete step toward fostering "social innovation among faculty and students" by integrating academic research, local engagement, and international contributions. Through its three USR projects, NTPU focuses on achieving its mission to "enhance university governance, promote sustainable development, strengthen public-private partnerships, and build a robust USR ecosystem." These projects address:
．Environmental sustainability through low-carbon management,
．Social impact through services for the aging population, and
．Governance innovation through cultural rejuvenation and regeneration.
