The City of Kaohsiung is committed to becoming a model city of sustainability for the future, guided by the vision of building a “Technological, Livable, Happy, and Vibrant Kaohsiung” to drive comprehensive urban transformation and sustainable development.
Kaohsiung City took the national lead by announcing its Kaohsiung City Net-Zero Urban Development and Self Government Ordinance for Net-Zero Urban Development, introducing a carbon budget, and establishing a Net-Zero Institute to cultivate green-collar professionals. It also launched the nation's first city-built AI platform, in collaboration with international partners such as NVIDIA, to enhance digital governance and technological resilience, creating a model of smart and sustainable governance. In addition, the city is actively expanding renewable energy, developing smart transportation systems, promoting SDGs education, and implementing comprehensive social welfare policies, including childcare, early education, and long-term care, to improve the quality of life of all residents.
In 2024, Kaohsiung City received 302 domestic and international awards, demonstrating the city's achievements in transformation and sustainable governance, as well as its full commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
