Introduction
Fu Jen Catholic University (FJCU) was founded in 1925 in Beijing and re-established in Taiwan in 1961. It is the only comprehensive university in Taiwan under the direct authority of the Congregation for Catholic Education of the Holy See. Rooted in the Christian spirit of universal love and guided by the educational ideals of “Truth, Goodness, Beauty, and Holiness,” FJCU integrates Chinese cultural heritage with Catholic values. The university is committed to holistic education, promoting social care and human welfare. By nurturing students who embody core values such as integrity, humility, collaboration, service,
courage, and excellence, FJCU responds to the needs of a diverse society and fulfills both its mission of Catholic higher education and its university social responsibility.
FJCU combines Catholic faith with academic excellence, addressing contemporary challenges and social changes through high-quality curricula, innovative research, community engagement, and international collaboration. The university consists of 12 colleges, a Division of Continuing Education, an affiliated hospital, the Institute of Catholic Thought and Culture, multiple museums, and libraries, all of which provide a high-quality learning and research environment. FJCU cultivates talents with foresight and a sustainability mindset, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to thrive in the future, foster social sustainability, enhance human well-being, and fulfill the integrated ideal of “Understanding People, Understanding Things, and Understanding Heaven.”
With the vision of “becoming a university of social impact rooted in the Christian spirit of universal love,” FJCU is dedicated to being an internationalized Catholic university that balances professional development with humanistic care. The university embraces the spirit of Laudato Si’, the encyclical issued by the late Pope Francis, and incorporates the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its educational philosophy. Aligned with Taiwan’s 2050 Net-Zero Transformation policy, FJCU has set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. In this context, President Vincent Han-Yi Lan proposed the university’s strategic governance philosophy, G.R.A.C.E., as follows:

Anchored in this vision, FJCU promotes sustainable development through three main areas of practice: the Sustainable Campus, Wenzizun University Town, and Global International Networks. These efforts aim to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and social engagement, advancing FJCU toward becoming a carbonneutral ecological campus and a global platform for sustainability.
